The intended message of this pin, discovered at the Weiner Prater public park, is “Fick FPÖ” or its English equivalent “Fuck FPÖ.” FPÖ is the abbreviation for Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs or Freedom Party of Austria. The FPÖ is Austria’s brand of right-wing populism/nationalism that has been spreading across Europe for the past decade. The FPÖ’s candidate Norbert Hoffer lost Austria’s presidential election to the Green Party’s Alexander Van der Bellen in 2016.
